Supporting Young People

Our promise to our residents

If you live in one of our homes, we want you to feel safe, secure, and cared for. We’re here to support you and help you achieve the things that matter to you. We will always do everything we can to:

How do we support you?

Before you move in, you’ll be given a Young Person’s Guide. This explains who will be looking after you and what life in the home will be like, so you know what to expect. Every day, you’ll have one-to-one support from a member of the team. You’ll also have a key worker — someone who gets to know you well and supports you with things like appointments, meetings, and keeping your care plans and risk assessments up to date with your views included. They’ll also help make sure your health and education needs are met. Each home has a manager and an assistant manager who make sure everyone supporting you is doing their job properly and that your care, health, and education needs are being looked after. Alongside the team in the home, senior managers visit regularly and are available to offer extra support if you ever need it.

How do we keep you safe?

Our main job is to keep you safe. Sometimes this means we may have to make decisions you don’t always agree with, but we will always explain why. We use something called a risk assessment to help us understand what might put you at risk. This looks at things that have happened before and what is happening now. We will work with you to reduce risks and help you stay safe. There may be times when we have to say no to certain things. This is never to be unfair — it is only to protect you and keep you safe from harm.

Everyone who works here is trained to help keep you safe. We have a Safeguarding Lead whose job is to listen to you and make sure you are protected. If something doesn’t feel right, or you’re unhappy about a decision, you can talk to them or another trusted adult in the home. You can also make a complaint if you need to. We’ll show you how when you arrive, and the information is always easy to find. If we’re ever worried about your safety, or you tell us something that concerns you, we will act straight away to help keep you safe and let the right people know.

How do we help you stay in touch with your friends and family?

Spending time with your family and friends is important. When you come to live with us, this will be planned with your social worker and included in your care plan. Your family time will be reviewed regularly to make sure it continues to meet your needs. If spending time with family is part of your plan, staff will support and help arrange this. If any worries or risks come up, we will talk with you and your social worker to decide together what should happen next, always keeping your safety and wellbeing at the centre.

How do we make sure we listen to you?

You will always have chances to share your wishes and feelings, and we will listen to you. Wherever it is safe and possible, we will try to act on what you ask for. If we can’t do something, we will always explain why. If you’re unhappy with a decision, you can talk to the home’s manager, a senior leader, your social worker, or an advocate. You also have the right to raise a complaint or speak to Ofsted if you need to.
